Can I register .ac.uk and .gov.uk domain names?

The .ac.uk domain extension is available to UK based education establishments such as universities and other centers of tertiary education. The eligibility policy for .ac.uk domains can be found on the Janet Community website.

UK Goverment departments and agencies, local and regional government bodies and also NDPB organisations and projects have the right to register a .gov.uk domain. Domain names should comply with the Guidelines for UK Government websites and reflect the legal name or the registered 'trading name' of your organisation. If you qualify for either a .ac.uk or .gov.uk domain name you can register these through Kualo directly, though the application and order process differs to normal domains and is not available via our web site.

How to apply for the domain registration?

In order to register a .ac.uk or .gov.uk domain, you need to complete the form attached below and send it to us, so that we can submit your application from your behalf.

You can only register .ac.uk and .gov.uk domains for a period of 2 years. The cost for both domain names is £120 + VAT for the first two years and then £80 + VAT for each subsequent 2 years renewal .

Please keep in mind that the registartion process will generally take between 5 and 20 days as the application needs to be reviewed and approved by the registry.
