How to create a new Alias (park a domain) in cPanel
What is an Alias Domain?
An alias domain (sometimes called a parked domain) allows you to point additional domain names to your website. Unlike subdomains or addon domains, alias domains do not have their own unique content or document root. Instead, they display the same content as an existing domain, whether it’s your primary domain or an addon domain.
For example, if your primary domain is example.com, you can use an alias domain like example.net or example.org to direct visitors to the same website.
Why Use Alias Domains?
- Ensure customers can find your site using alternate domain names
- Protect your brand by registering and pointing similar domains to your primary site
- Support marketing campaigns by pointing specific domains to the same content
- Use email with a different domain than your website without needing a new site
Important Considerations
Alias domains are useful for domains you own and manage. However:
- Aliases are not separate websites: They display the same content as your primary domain or an addon domain and cannot host unique content.
- Domain registration required: Before creating an alias, ensure the domain is registered with a valid registrar and configured to point to our nameservers:
- ns1.kualo.net
- ns2.kualo.net
- ns3.kualo.net
- ns4.kualo.net
Steps to Create an Alias Domain in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel and Open "Domains":
Click the Domains icon in the cPanel dashboard.

- Enter Your Alias Domain:
In the Domain field, type the full name of the domain you want to use as an alias. For example:
- To point example.net to example.com, type example.net.

- Understand Document Root:
- By default, the "Share document root" option is checked. This means the alias domain will display the same content as your primary domain.
- If you want the alias to point to an addon domain, you need to update the document root to match the folder for that addon domain. You can find the addon domain's document root in the addon domains section of cPanel.
- Verify DNS Settings:
Ensure the alias domain is configured to point to our nameservers. If the domain is registered elsewhere, update its DNS settings as listed above.
- Click "Create":
Once the settings are complete, click Create.
What Happens Next?
After you create your alias domain, here’s what happens:
- Redirection to your chosen domain: Visitors accessing your alias domain will see the same content as the domain it’s pointing to (primary or addon). You may also wish to create a redirect in cPanel if you'd prefer the user to be redirected to your primary domain instead.
- SEO Considerations: Alias domains do not improve search rankings directly since they share content with another domain. They primarily ensure visitors can find your site using alternate domain names.
- DNS Resolution: If your alias domain is pointed to our nameservers, it should start working within a few minutes. If it doesn’t, contact us for assistance.
