How to Manually Run AutoSSL for a Domain in cPanel

AutoSSL is a feature within cPanel that automatically issues SSL certificates for domains hosted on your server. This process typically runs automatically every few hours, ensuring your domains are secured without manual intervention.

However, there are instances when you might want to manually trigger AutoSSL, especially after pointing your domain to the server. This is often necessary following a website migration when you want the SSL certificate to be issued immediately rather than waiting for the next automatic run.

Prerequisites

Before manually running AutoSSL, ensure that your domain is pointed correctly to the server. The domain needs to resolve to your server's IP address for the SSL certificate to be successfully issued. This means that you should be using our nameservers, or if you use external DNS, pointing to the IP address of your hosting account.

Steps to Manually Run AutoSSL

Step 1: Log into cPanel

Access your cPanel account by navigating to https://yourdomain.com/cpanel and logging in with your credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to SSL/TLS Status

In the cPanel dashboard, scroll down to the "Security" section.
Click on SSL/TLS Status. This will take you to a page that displays the SSL status of all domains and subdomains under your cPanel account.

Step 3: Run AutoSSL

On the SSL/TLS Status page, you'll see a list of your domains and subdomains, and their current SSL status.
To manually trigger AutoSSL, simply click the Run AutoSSL button at the top of the page. There’s no need to select any domains unless you want to exclude certain subdomains.
cPanel will now attempt to issue an SSL certificate for all eligible domains. This process usually completes within a few minutes.

Note: The checkboxes next to each domain are used to exclude certain subdomains from AutoSSL. For example, you might exclude a subdomain if it's not operational or if you're using external DNS and haven't added the necessary record in your DNS zone. If this doesn’t apply to you, you can skip this step and just run AutoSSL.

Step 4: Verify SSL Installation

After the process completes, check the SSL status next to the domain. If successful, the status will indicate that the SSL is active.
You can also verify by visiting your website and checking the SSL certificate information in your browser (a padlock icon should appear in the address bar).

Manually running AutoSSL in cPanel is a simple and effective way to immediately issue SSL certificates, particularly useful after updating DNS settings or migrating a website. If your domain is correctly pointed to your server, AutoSSL should issue the certificate without any issues, ensuring your site is secure for visitors.
