How to setup your email account on Gmail

This article will teach you how to set up your email account on Gmail.

Many people choose to forward emails from their domain-based mailbox to a Gmail account, but this approach has significant drawbacks. When emails, including spam, are forwarded, Gmail may interpret them as originating from our servers, potentially causing deliverability issues for your domain. Instead, we strongly recommend setting up your mailbox in Gmail via POP3 and SMTP, which allows Gmail to fetch emails rather than them being forwarded to your account.

By configuring your domain-based email account in Gmail, you can send and receive messages using Gmail's interface while keeping your emails securely stored on Kualo's servers. This method effectively turns Gmail into an email client, similar to Outlook, Mac Mail, or Thunderbird. This additionally means that if you wish to ever transition away from Gmail, your emails can easily be synced to your device allowing you to start using a full-featured email client.

Before You Begin

You will need to have created an email account in cPanel, rather than a simple forwarder.
You will need your POP3 and SMTP settings, which can be found in your Kualo control panel.
If you'd previously set up an email account and are unsure about your email account password, try to log in to Webmail to confirm you have the correct credentials. Alternatively, you may reset your mailbox password in cPanel.
If you previously set up an email forwarder to Gmail, you must remove it; otherwise, you may receive your emails multiple times.

Let's set up your email account on Gmail. Here are the steps to check your emails:

Open your browser and Sign in to Gmail.
Click the gear icon and then click the See all settings button.
Click the Accounts and Import tab; on the Check email from other accounts section, click Add an email account.
A popup window will appear. Type in your email address and click the Next button.
Keep the radio button for Import emails from my other account (POP3) highlighted and click Next.
Type in all the required information on each field for Username, Password, and POP Server. The details in the image below are just examples, you can find your connection details in cPanel. Ensure that the first three checkboxes are checked. This way, you can still save your emails on the server and get a clear view of which email was received.
Click the Add Account button.
Once your email account is added, you’ll be asked if you want to send emails. Choose Yes and click on the Next button.
Enter the desired name in the Name field and the Email Address you're setting up. Uncheck the box for Treat as an alias.
Click Next Step.
Complete the SMTP server, username and password fields. The correct server and port to use can be found in cPanel.
Click the Add Account button. Please wait for it to verify.
A verification email will be sent to your email address. You can either:
- Click the link on the confirmation email or,
- Enter the verification code sent to your email and then click Verify button.

Once you're done, you can go back to your Gmail inbox, and you'll see something like this:

Under Labels, if you click on your email account, you'll see all the emails received by the email account you just set up, separate from your Gmail account.
